1. Stance: The correct stance is crucial for a forward defensive shot. The batsman should stand with their feet shoulder-width apart, ensuring a balanced and stable position. 2. Positioning of the feet: The positioning of the feet is essential for a successful forward defensive shot. The front foot should be placed forward, pointing towards the bowler, while the back foot should be slightly behind and parallel to the crease. 3. Use of the bat: The bat should be held with both hands close together, ensuring a firm grip. The top hand should be slightly ahead of the bottom hand, providing better control and maneuverability. The bat should be held vertically, with the face of the bat pointing towards the ground. 4. Watch the ball closely: It is crucial for the batsman to watch the ball closely from the bowler's hand until it makes contact with the bat. This allows the batsman to judge the line and length of the ball accurately and make the necessary adjustments in their footwork and shot selection. 5. Footwork: Good footwork is essential for a forward defensive shot. The batsman should move their front foot forward and towards the line of the ball, ensuring that they get close to the pitch of the ball. 6. Balance and weight transfer: Maintaining balance and transferring weight correctly is crucial for a forward defensive shot. The batsman should ensure that their weight is evenly distributed on both feet during the shot. As the ball approaches, the batsman should transfer their weight onto the front foot, allowing them to move forward and meet the ball with precision and control. 7. Patience and timing: A forward defensive shot requires patience and good timing. The batsman should wait for the ball to come to them and play the shot at the right moment. Rushing the shot or playing it too early can result in mistiming and getting out. 8. Practice and repetition: Like any other cricket shot, the forward defensive requires practice and repetition to master.
